My Christmas Sew In Pics

My hair took around 6 hours to complete . I think this is the 1st one I've did that I can really feel the pain, haha. I used my batik Euro j-body wvg. It has Thin wefts so it really easing to fold while sewing and the curls are soo bouncy =) So, without further adieu:

This is the hair that was combed out from my previous sew in. Yeah, it's alot.

furball!

These are products/treatments I use before hiding my hair. Very simple regimen.

Almond Milk.

milk!

I have a regular hair client that introduced me to this. She is a hardcore vegan & has inspired me to take a more healthy route in my eating habits. I've been drinking Almond milk by Blue Diamond for a month now & I love it. It's now my substitute for regular milk. It's, of course, a vegan drink that's a non-dairy, Gluten, Cholesterol & Lactose free. Also has a great source of vitamins. I've been eating it with my Special K Chocolately Delight & Cinnamon Pecan cereal. Recently I tried 1% milk with my cereal & it tasted unusual. So I'm sticking with it, lol. I wanna try and make it from scratch one day if I'm brave enough =)

My personal favorite is the vanilla flavor. It's sweet & goes great with cereal. I just wanted to give my opinion on this. Don't be scared. Try it at least one. It sells for 4.00 in stores. Try it!

Doing it up for Christmas & A Small Goal...

So the big day is next Friday and I really wanna get pretty for Christmas. It's funny cause I could care less if I get anything this year, I just want food in my tummy, hair on my head and God by my side, lol. Tomorrow I will be taking this old sew in out and rejuvenate my hair, then Saturday I'm going to weave it up. I can't wait to see the finished look. I dont wanna look too done up either. You know that feeling, like your over dressed? ugh. Whoo! I'm excited.

I will also be stocking back up on my health foods again. More fruits, vegetables, bottled water, salad & non sugary cereal. Yum! I'm not giving myself a date or limit, but I would like to loose 30lbs before my 22nd b-day. I'm serious about it this time. I feel like I have the support & finances to really make a difference. Now to find a place to work out...

So, that's about it for tonight. Oh! and I'm getting pretty fed up with all this Tiger Wood coverage. Everytime I turn on the TV another mistress has came out of hiding! Man. I just had to vent a bit. Carry on...

My Weave Regimen & How I Maintain My Hair Underneath

As you all should know I am a routine weave wearer. They are my staple protective style. As soon as I take one down, I have another up like clock work because I get tempted to apply heat & wear it down constantly. Not good. I choose to wear weaves because I really hate having to sit for 8 or more hrs & at this point in my life a weave is a little more convenient for me.

My "prepping for a weave" Routine:

Step One: Clarify
Step Two: Moisturizing Shampoo
Step Three: Condish to dentangle
Step Four: Apply Protein for 10 min
Step Five: DC for around 2 hours

The next steps are me braiding and then sewing in the weave. I either take two full days to do my hair or one depending if I have other plans within the next few days. I usually leave my weave in for a month- a month in a half tops. To be honest I rarley apply any moisturizing products in my hair while I'm weaved up. It depends on whether I'm rocking straight or curly hair, but either way I'll use oil inside a bottle with a nozle top so I can get to my salp. Below is my regular routine without weave:

-Clarify 1x a month
-Wash/DC 1x a week
-Protein every 2 weeks
-Co-Wash as needed
-Moisturize & seal as needed
-Trim ends every 3 months

Now, I hope this helps some of ya'll that are looking for some advice when caring for your hair while in a ps. Enjoy!

Euro J-body Wvg by Batik

Euro J-body wvg
I went on a little spree today @ the bss in search of a new holiday doo. For temporary styles I always use Batik synthetic hair and I was gonna go back to my usual Loose Wave curl, but I came across a new style. It's a layered bumped under look that comes in various colors. The only length it comes in is 7, 8, 9 inches. It looks beautiful and everytime I think about what it's going to look like, I start to drool, lol. I can't resist a heavy, sexy bang in my face, Love it! at 1st I was hesitant about having hair this short, but I did a length check & I comfortable with it.

I plan on installing it before the weekend begins. I may wanna get dressed up & go out. I will of course take pics with my cousins camera once the style is complete. Oh, I also bought some more aphogee 2 min reconstructer and I can't wait to play in my hair =)

Making it to APL...

The next step in my hair journey is to get to my goal of APL. I joined a challenge on BHM (BlackHairMedia) to make it in 2010, but it seems as though I'm not going to make it by then. I'm currently CBL at the moment. I plan on keeping my hair weaved up and I'm not doing anymore leave outs in 2010 cause this flat ironing ain't the business. Tomorrow I'm product shopping & getting my hair ready for christmas =) My hair is really in need of some protein and a DC. I would like to make APL around Halloween of 2010. I'm giving myself a spacious time span so I can actually make it, lol. I'm still debating on texlaxing or bonelaxing cause I hate how the shedding looks. Maybe 2012 I will, If taking care of my hair gets harder.

I rarley see any naturals going relaxed anymore & I really want some inspiration! Do u know of any? Please let me know.

Kisses,
KF.

A different view on life.

I just finished my Medical Assistant program on Friday & I feel as though a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Ah! Free at last =) and at this very moment it is my mission to find a decent paying job. I feel as though since I've moved from my mom's house, finished the 1st step in my schooling and started living with my cousin, I'm more independent & I can accomplish anything. It's funny because I've been planning my life in my head for so long and now you guys are the 1st ones I share my thoughts with. Lucky you =). I really plan to make some drastic (well, I guess this statement really depends on ur level of drastic) changes in my life and of course they are for the better.

I don't wanna make this a new years resolution, challenge or give this a time limit because I hate limiting myself. I decided that I'm going to take as much time as I need to make sure that I do this right this time. So. I'm going to be moving back to my hometown for a little over a year, which is, Blythe, CA. Ever heard of it? Sure u haven't, lol. It's very small, but I'm going back there, completing another step in my medical education (LVN), getting braces, YES, braces! and working on my body image. I'm mainly working on my body because I was diagnosed with hypertension which is High blood pressure and It's not that great for someone who is as young as me, so I'm being really cautious about what I eat. I've stopped eating fast food, limited my beef & salt intake, drinking milk and eating food as is, no seasoning. I'm trying ladies!

I'm so determined to do this ya'll. I'm ready for this and I wanna be happy with my future. I can't settle for less now. I won't. I'm going to posting all day cause I have a lot to get off my chest. Enjoy!

Kisses!

Newbie Information. Will update often!

I just started my hair Journey in October 08. I had already did my BC in November 07, but I was covering my hair up in wigs and as it grew out more I went into braids, then weaves. The thing is I wasn't taking "care" of it, just hiding it. So I began searching around for indian hair one day & came across BHM (Black Hair Media) which is a hair care site & I've been hooked ever since! lol. So I'm still a lil new to the Hair game, but I wanted to share w/ you somethings that I have learned so far.

Common Hair Techniques

Stretching: Allowing your relaxer/hair to grow past the normal "touch up" date, going longer than usual w/o a relaxer

Braidouts: Braiding hair in either cornrows or singles & then removing them to give your hair a wavy look. Can be done for air drying & a protective style.

Baggy Method: Protecting & keeping your ends moisturized while in a plastic bag. Excellent for phony ponies!

Relaxed: Chemically treated hair. When the natural hair bonds are broken to create straight hair.

Texlaxed/Texturized: Hair this is chemically treated, but underprocessed on purpose. Gives hair body & thickness.

Co-wash: Washing your hair w/ only conditioner. Give more moisture to the hair, than doing a shampoo/conditioner combo.

Transitioning: Going from relaxed/texturized to natural.

Pre-Pooing: Giving your hair a moisture or protein treatment before an actual wash. Some good things to use are garlic/olive oil for shedding or honey & avocado for moisture. The eggs for protein.

Scalp Massages: Increases blood flow to help growth.

Line of Demarcation: The line between where your new growth & relaxed hair meet.

Natural: Hair that is free of chemicals.

Overlapping: When a chemical is reapplied to hair that already has been relaxed or texturized.

Sealing: Using an oil that seals in moisture after moisturizing. Like castor, jojoba, coconut, sweet almond & olive. It locks in moisture.

Self Relaxing: Relaxing your hair without the help of a stylist. It's easier that it sounds for your ladies who go to salons, but make sure you do your research before hand.

Trimming/Dusting/Seach & Destroy: Trimming about an inch or so of your hair, but ladies trimming every 6-8 weeks is not necessary unless your maintaing a blunt hair style or are a frequent heat user. Dusting means you trim less than half an inch for health reasons. Seach & Destroy is when you search your hair for splits and destroy them. I love this method best of all.

Porosity: When your hair is able to absorb moisture.

Measuring: Seeing how long your hair is in inches w/ a measuring tape or using the basic sl, apl method.

Finger Combing: Using your fingers to comb your hair instead. Reduces breakage & manipulation to your strands.

Hopefully this will help someone new to the Hair Game.

Tips I've learned from my weight loss journey

ugh!

I just recently started this weight loss idea. One thing that motivated me to make a new beginning was the common problem any plus size women would have. Not finding flattering or cute clothes, even in plus size stores, but also I have asthma and it rarely get triggered by anything but running. So I'm fed up with it and sometimes the clothes aren't even of great material. A mess. So my goal for this year is to lose 50lbs by Summer and 95lbs by Dec 09. I'm truly excited for this change & change is definitely good. It's makes you feel like a different person. So I'm going to share a few things that will and have helped me shed pounds.

Tips for eating healthy:

-Stay away from the fried foods! Don't act like Y'all don't know what I'm talking about. Fried chicken, zucchini, fish. All 0f this is not good for you. I had to find out the hard way. When you start having aches in you heart, it sucks. Instead opt for baked or grilled dishes. There are plenty of websites online that have recipes for this. My fav healthy dinner that I just had for the 1st time 2 days ago is baked chicken w/ brown rice and mixed vegetables. Also you can add a Salad if you choose. I know it sucks switching up from food you regularly eat, but just think about how much more energized & light you'll feel.

-Juice your juice! if you have a juicer just sitting at home not in motion. Use it. Instead of going to buy that $3.00 gallon of juice, you could use fruits that you have at home or go buy a couple of your fav fruits and start juicing! not only will it not have all those crazy ingredients, but shoot! you can make some stuff they don't even sell in stores.

-Eat small portions! Now this is the hardest thing for me I must admit. It's not putting the portions on my plate, but after I'm done eating, I want more. If this happens to you, don't worry. When your done with your regular meal and you still have the hungry feeling, eat something else. Plain and simple, but just make sure that "something" is healthy. Like fruit(Ugh! i know) or a salad w/ pieces of chicken in it. Remember that ranch is the worst of all dressing. Italian is the best and with less calories, it's really tasty. Ranch does come in low-fat if your a ranch fanatics.

-Snack Healthy! I love to snack. Matter of fact I don't even need a meal if this is around. If your similar to me, make sure your snacking is a guilt-free snack. I know we all want a late night snack with those Hershey's kisses left over or that last piece of cake, but control your cravings. Now I've been known to give in and eat whatever I want from time to time, but don't be like me. Please. Again I know fruit may suck, but it will help tremendously. Below are some food ideas to help you get started with losing those pounds you dislike.

Healthy food choices to make:

Breakfast:
You could choose this as your smallest or biggest meal of the day)
Eggs(boiled or scrambled)
Turkey bacon
Oatmeal
Fruit
Half a bagels
2 waffles
bowl of non-sugary cereal (honey bunches of oats or special K) w/ 2% or 1% milk

Lunch:
Turkey sandwich on wheat or multi-grain bread
Salad w/ chicken topping & dressing of choice (but Italian is great)
Bowl of soup, but not creamy soup!

Dinner:
Baked or Grilled chicken or fish
Brown rice
Mixed Vegetables or vegetables of your choice
Asian Chicken Salad ( will have recipe later)

Late night snacks:
Fruit Salad
Apples w/ peanut butter
Peanut butter sandwich
Yogurt
Kettle corn popcorn
Celery w/ low fat ranch or pb

Juice or smoothie's:
-Frozen strawberry's w/ banana's and you can add crushed ice
-Frozen mixed berry's w/ banana's, fat free vanilla yogurt, peanut butter and orange juice
-2% milk, your fruit option, brown sugar
-low fat ice cream of choice, peanut butter, cinnamon and fruit of choice.

I hope that this helps all of you striving to a new healthier you and let me know what you guys think of my recipes and also what recipes do you have of your own? Please share!

What's your 2009 resolution & Goals?

I know I haven't posted in a minute, but I'm just letting Y'all know that I am alive and kicking. I bought a couple of products over the weekend and will share with all of you what they are once I try em out and such. Also I have a couple of weight and eating info that can be very vital to everyone. 2009 is starting off very well for me and I hope everyone is feeling the love too. What are your goals for this new year? what are you looking forward too? and what's something you can't wait to do for the summer?. As for me I'm definitely looking forward to losing this weight and getting longer, stronger, healthier hair (that sounds like a commercial, lol.) Also I believe me and the bf are planning a disneyland trip for this month, so I'm super excited! I'll be getting a Gym membership today also. I need some type of motivation to get me started with no excuses to come out of my mouth. Well Happy New Year to all and check back for my reviews tomorrow!
